Instructions on how to setup the POP protocol to access your School of Engineering E-Mail

  • With the availability of the UITS VPN client, the following should only be used by individuals not using Outlook or Entourage as their email client.
  • The third and least recommended solution for E-Mail is to POP your email off of the server. This method has the greatest possibility of you losing E-Mail as it is permanently removed off the server via this protocol.

  • Select POP3 and click next
  • Type your name as you want it to occur in the Your name field.
  • Type your engineering email address in the E-Mail Address field
  • For on campus and off-campus use mailhost.engr.uconn.edu in both the Incoming and Outgoing mail server fields [Note: Some ISPs such as Yahoo/SBC will block the outgoing smtp port. If you are using this service provider, you can use the ISPs SMTP server for the outgoing mailserver, this is called spoofing.
  • Click OK
  • Click Next, then Finish, and finally OK to complete the wizard.
