UConn ASME Section Advisor

Dr. Zbigniew M. Bzymek

Dr. Zbigniew M. Bzymek has over 30 years design and teaching experience. He joined the University of Connecticut in 1981. He received his PhD from Warsaw University of Technology in 1968, M.S. degree in Structural Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor in 1961, and M.S. in Bridge Design from Warsaw University of Technology in 1959. His doctoral work was on dynamic analysis of bridges. His master thesis was on design and analysis of bridges composed of beams supported by arches or suspended on cables. He is a recipient of several design awards in bridge and mechanism design contests. Together with the teams of his students, he received Second National
ASME Award for Mechanism Design (1988) and Goss and DeLeeuw for Outstanding Achievement in Conceptual Design of the Modified 1-2-3 Rotary Transfer Machine (1998).


During his tenure at the University of Connecticut, Dr. Zbigniew M. Bzymek has taught a wide range of courses including:

Dr. Bzymek has served as the ASME Faculty Advisor from 1997 - present. During his tenure as an ASME advisor, the section established a traditional Pratt & Whitney Lecture and Dinner, created a Graduate Student Interest Group and promoted many interesting trips and competitions. The membership of the section increased from about 60 to over
100 members.

In addition to his academic duties, Dr. Bzymek serves as a consultant to industry and as an expert on industrial matters to the Federal Court. His consulting includes opinions in patent applications and machine design and operation. Dr. Bzymek is an author and co-author of five books, over 120 articles and conference papers, industrial reports and
published reviews of books. Dr. Bzymek is a Computer Graphics Pioneer, an ACM SIGGRAPH member and a member of several honor societies.

He is listed in Lexinton Who's Who Registry, Marqui's Who's Who in Computer Graphics and Who's Who in Polish America. He is a member of the New York Academy of Science.
