Biographical Sketch

Dr. Nikolaidis received his doctoral degree at the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of Iowa ( University of Iowa - 1987 ). Dr. Nikolaidis' teaching interests are in the fields of hydrology, aquatic chemistry, chemical transport processes and environmental modeling. His research expertise is deterministic and stochastic modeling of water quality problems, including acidic deposition, eutrophication, and fate and transport of heavy metals in the environment. He has developed a watershed model for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that has been used to assess freshwater resources at risk to acidic deposition. Recently, he developed two distributed fate, transport and speciation models, one for chromium in soils and groundwaters and the other to assess the impacts of nonpoint source pollution. His work has appeared in Journal of Contaminant Hydrology, Groundwater Monitoring and Remediation, Atmospheric Environment, Water Resources Research, Aquatic Sciences, and Water Science and Technology. Dr. Nikolaidis is an associate editor of the Journal of Groundwater, a member of the Board of Directors of the New England Section of AWRA and a member of the Scientific Council of the National Centre for Marine Research, Athens Greece.
